.    My "Standard Catalog of AMC" tells us that the Rebel Machine was an impressive beast.  First introduced in October 1969 at the NHRA World Championship Drag Races in Dallas Texas, these cars had the highest horsepower engines that AMC ever installed in a production car; a 390 with 340hp.  My catalog says, "The Machine was a faster car than it should have been."  Whatever that means....   Only 1,936 of these cars were ever manufactured.  1970 was the only year too.            (j-s)
